Special Interest Groups
CAG has formed a few Special Interest Groups, you will find their sub-pages linked under this page in the menu. Over time these pages will grow although, as of July 2025, they are newly formed so it is early days.
The SIGs are listed below:
The Landscape Archaeology Group
This group looks at the history and development of a landscape from it’s earliest known records, old maps and resources such as google maps pro and Lidar then to collate and produce a report for CAG Members. This may include a number of site visits and regular meeting to discuss findings.
Its’ present project is the area around the village of Elmstead Market
Roman Roads Group
Investigation of the pattern of the roads left by the Romans. Many traces of their road system are still to be found in the landscape. By using Lidar, google maps and the many new available resources we plan to add more detail to what is already known or indeed find unknown roads.
Investigations and results are normality published in CAG Newsletter

Technical Support Team
This is a new sub-group who are specialising in the use of modern surveying equipment that is now available to modern archaeology. CAG has access to ground resistance measuring tools, radar, hand-held detectors and drones.
This will also involve the interpretation of the data collected.
This new group is a learning curve for most and you are not expected to be an expert should you wish to join them. There are to be regular training days and up-date meetings for it’s members.
